Part 72: Battle on the Big Shrine
Chapter 23: Battle on the Big ShrineI do some of the boring scutwork of World 3 offscreen. I stopped in Moore to buy an Air Knife, and in Mirage to get some spells and equipment. I also did the chocobo circumnavigation but didn’t claim the prize nor did I get the black chocobo. I basically the less time doing tedious things with a 3 year old the better. We still have some busy work ahead, but at least it is busy work with some zazz.
I explain that Exdeath combined the first map and the second map.
”Ecks-deff make new map?” He might be saying two map. He has me point out where we are, and where Exdeath is.
We go get Syldra.
”He dragon?”
“Sort of a dragon. Like a dinosaur that swims.”
”Dinosaur helping us?”
“She is!”
”stay in the hole,” He makes me stay in the cave a little and show off Syldra.
”We got another new hit?”
“Shall we get another new hit?”
”No i don’t want another new hit”
Okay, fine. We’ll get the knife instead of Odin next.
”He say that?” I pick the Chicken Knife lets be serious here.
”He bad guy? We gonna fight him?”
“Nope. He’s just a skeleton making chicken noises.”
Could use some work.
I go to Bal Castle before hitting the Jachol Cave because I am nearly out of Gold Needles. He has me go to the top and look around. He asks what she is looking at, and I say the water. Then later the wind drake. If you talk to it you can ride it it seems. Or gives the option. I don’t at this point anyway.
”Dragon is Wind Drake?”
We climb up!
”Pop it.”
He nods in response to this question!
”Look at him!” Also guess whose accessories I didn’t notice changed when I gave them spell blade?
He Odin, what do you and me in World 2 have in common?
WE’RE BROKE.
Score. On the way out, he has questions about the ground.
”Why it has holes? ”
“the floor? Why do you think it has holes?”
“It got wiggly broken?”
“An earthquake you mean?”
”Uh-huh. Ecks-deff do that?”
”Ecks-deff broke it to pieces?”
I offer to show off Odin some more but he wants me to use “Purple fire” instead so I do. Getting closer to !Rapidfire. I can’t believe he loves ranger so much. Tiny hats, man.
”We back in here?”
“The cave we were in connects to the castle!”
We move on to the next stop. I want to take Boko to the waterfall but he doesn’t want to ride Boko. I ask if he wants to see a Black Chocobo and he says yes. Off to Mirage.
There is a lot of ”Find black chocobo. Where black chocobo?” as we make our way there.
“He gave us a vest!”
He asks what the Mirage Village song is. I tell him the mysterious town song.
”Black Chocobo!” The second we take off though he wants off. He doesn’t want that song now. He wants the black chocobo to fly away. I explain he won’t, but we can. We scoot to the next.
I said I’d do it later!
”What song is that?”
“It’s a piano song.” What song IS that?
”Let me look at them.”
“We’re looking for a certain bad guy here.”
”Lake bad guy?”
“Yes.”
”And these not him?”
”That lake bad guy?”
“We need to learn something from him.”
”Magicians flying!” He loves it.
“Yeah! They’re floating!”
”Want them stay floating.”
Well, son. I have Mighty Guard now. We can do that. We can do ANYthing.
To assure him they are still flying I show him the feather icon. He wants to look at it for awhile.
But eventually, “We found the big bridge again!”
”The big bridge?”
He is going to be so disappointed.
”Step on there.”
”They hard?”
“Well they’re made of stone, so they probably are hard.”
I hit TOO hard and one comes back.
”Magicians don’t want him come back?”
“Fire! Fire is on the page!”
“Yep.”
“One fire.”
”What that for?”
“Lets walk in front and find out.”
We get sucked around, flip switches, get loot.
Trigger this monster in a box.
”He looking at us?”
“Yes.”
”And magicians looking at him?”
“We’re looking at each other!”
I pop Golem. (”Robot help?”)
”They not looking at us?”
“They’re jumping away, I guess.”
”Why we fighting him here?”
“He was in the box!”
”He was in the box? Why we fighting him here?”
Later we fight a random encounter near a chest and he asks the bad guys there were in the chest. I tell him no, they were just near it.
”Why they red?”
“They’re a different color from the other backwards guys. There are a lot of them.”
”That a lot of guys.”
”We beat a lot of guys?”
“How did we beat them?”
He thinks. ”With our new hit?”
”Why we in here”
“What happening here?”
“what do you think?
”These things stick on them?”
“These green things?
“Yes.”
“They’re vines. Plants!”
”He so big! Why he different color?”
I try to explain pallet swaps to him. Coloring the same picture in different colors.
”Why we fighting him wrong color?”
If at the start you had told me my first mastered class was going to be ranger I wouldn’t have agreed
“He mastered the green magician clothes! Now he can always do four hits!”
”Four hits? He can do four hits? Four hits!” I show it off a little.
”No! Don’t fall down there.”
“Sorry.”
Krile masters White Mage. This I was expecting. I wouldn’t be surprised if I keep this through Exdeath. Her secondary abilities are kind of meh, but White Mage is super good on its own.
He merely watches this exchange.
”No shadows? And they floating? Not touching the ground?”
“Maybe they have no shadows because they’re ghosts?”
Mighty Guard! Golem! WHATCHU GOT WENDIGO?
I explain the idea of the fight to him. We have to guess the right one. It isn’t interesting as a fight. He asks about the music, and about the shadows, and why we floating. I realize Rapid Fire maybe might be a terrible idea here.
”First one is down!”
The rest of course follow swiftly.
And we win.
“Now we can get into the tower and get the most powerful magic, and save Cid- Grandpa.”
”Not yet!”
”Who said that?”
“It’s written on the tablet.”
”Walk on bridge.”
He wants me to cross it, so I do. He asks ”Why there land?” When we get into a fight on it and there is a grasslands background. I got nothing kid. Sorry.
“Time to get some new weapons, in case we change jobs.”
”Want to keep these magicians. Keep these magicians.”
It’s practical. A lot of classes use daggers.
He asks about the music here, of course.
Magus wand. Again, a lot of classes can work it.
He… liked Dragoons?
”Want look at feather.”
We wrap it up. I am almost tempted to try and encourage more class change. He’s been indifferent to soft encouragement to change it up. But our first mastered classes!
Next time: Fork Tower probably.
